Rishtan ceramic plate

A plate from Rishtan, Fergana Valley - hand-painted with cobalt icing. No lead, food-safe. The pattern is recognized at first sight.

Rishtan pottery is a recognizable school of Uzbek hand-painting from Rishtan, a city in the south of the Fergana Valley. The plates are painted with a cobalt-blue pattern with plant motifs; glaze is icing, based on the ashes of a desert plant, without lead and other heavy metals. These are dishes that are safe for food contact.

Rishtan has been the center of Uzbek ceramics for several hundred years; the city has several family workshops, each with its own handwriting. The characteristic cobalt-blue color is obtained from natural cobalt; plant motifs (tubes, pomegranates, almonds) and geometric patterns are written by hand with a thin brush.

On the counter we have plates of several diameters (22, 25, 28 cm), deep and flat. They are used in different ways: serving pilaf in a large company (a common plate in the center), serving fruits and dried fruits for tea, decorating the wall in the kitchen. A plate with a doped bottom is stable, does not "walk" on the table.

Care is simple: wash with your hands with warm water and a soft sponge, without hard tools and without a dishwasher. From sudden changes in temperature (hot dish on a cold plate), ceramics can crack - so serve on warm dishes. With careful handling, the plate will last for decades.
