Ishkor is the ash of the desert plant Salsola, which has been used for centuries in Rishtan as a base for glaze. Ischcorn glaze does not contain lead and other heavy metals, so it is safe for food contact. This distinguishes Rishtan dishes from Chinese fakes with paint.

Rishtan ceramic plate
A plate from Rishtan, Fergana Valley - hand-painted with cobalt icing. No lead, food-safe. The pattern is recognized at first sight.
Rishtan pottery is a recognizable school of Uzbek hand-painting from Rishtan, a city in the south of the Fergana Valley. The plates are painted with a cobalt-blue pattern with plant motifs; glaze is icing, based on the ashes of a desert plant, without lead and other heavy metals. Rishtan has been the center of Uzbek ceramics for several hundred years; the city has several family workshops, each with its own handwriting. The characteristic cobalt-blue color is obtained from natural cobalt; plant motifs (tubes, pomegranates, almonds) and geometric patterns are written by hand with a thin brush.
On the counter we have plates of several diameters (22, 25, 28 cm), deep and flat. They are used in different ways: serving pilaf in a large company (a common plate in the center), serving fruits and dried fruits for tea, decorating the wall in the kitchen. A plate with a doped bottom is stable, does not "walk" on the table.
Care is simple: wash with your hands with warm water and a soft sponge, without hard tools and without a dishwasher. From sudden changes in temperature (hot dish on a cold plate), ceramics can crack - so serve on warm dishes. With careful handling, the plate will last for decades.
FAQ
Rishtan ceramic plate - frequent questions
Not recommended. Hot water and hard products over time dim the glaze and erase the thin pattern. It is better to wash with warm water with a soft sponge.
Yeah. Ishcorn glaze without lead, ceramics are fired at high temperature - the dishes meet the requirements for EU contact materials. Particular attention is paid to temperature changes (a hot dish on a cold plate can cause a crack).
No, the patterns are written by hand, so even in one series there are minor differences - it is a sign of handmade, not a defect. Each workshop has its own style; we have several workshops on the counter.
